Adventures with the Giants – Sellew, 1950

Adventures with the Giants by Catharine F. Sellew, published by Little, Brown and Company (copyright 1950, sixteenth printing), is a beautifully illustrated collection of fourteen Norse mythology stories retold for younger readers. Steele Savage's expressive pen-and-ink illustrations bring the tales of Odin, Thor, Loki, Balder, and the frost giants vividly to life. This hardcover copy comes with its original dust jacket, which features a stunning full-color illustrated scene of Norse gods, giants, and a rainbow bridge. The dust jacket shows wear including edge creasing and a library sticker on the spine; the salmon-colored cloth binding underneath is clean. A wonderful vintage children's mythology book for collectors, readers, homeschool families, or anyone drawn to illustrated mid-century storytelling and Norse folklore.
