Pyrographic was popular in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The Flemish Art Co. of Brooklyn, New York, was the leading merchant of pyrographic art in its day and taught courses on pyrography, created instructional pamphlets and pyrography kits for purchase. Pyrography is the process of burning images into wood using specialized tools to create decorative art. It was sometimes performed as a hobby, especially by women.
